GO House / Purcellville, Virginia

GO HOUSE

The GO House presented a unique opportunity to build on an open residential lot on one of Purcellville's oldest streets. The project also presented a challenge to build a unique house for approximately the same cost as production built homes in order to make financing work. Materials are kept simple--Ikea kitchen and minimal trim. Production home materials--prefab roof trusses and cement board siding--are used but in uncommon configurations. The spaces are laid out and proportioned very efficiently and thoughtfully. The first floor offers open kitchen, living, and dining spaces as well as an office/ away room for quiet.  Sitting atop the simple cabinets is a long, locally-sourced walnut kitchen island counter which hosts everyday breakfasts as well as provides a gathering hub for large family events. The second floor houses the bedrooms and another away space, the book nook, with an oversized, cushy window seat and Nanoleaf programmable lights which fill the stairwell with colors to match the day. The lot is long and skinny providing a wonderful backyard feeling of being in the woods complete with fire pit, while being right in the center of town.
