A Man, A Van, and a Plan
The Man | “One Man Brooklyn”
- Local business owner (Hopscotch Coffee & Records, Chester Records, Due To The Fact Press)
- Hobbyist
- Lover of all things vintage
The Van | “Beanie”
- 1972 Dodge B300 Travco camper
- Mobile coffee shop appendage
The Plan
- A new low-profile accessory building on an existing lot in a dense HR1 residential district
- Two car garage footprint with a split plan for a garage and a print studio
- Incorporate a palette of vintage glass block for diffused natural southern light while filtering out the distractions of the alley
- Studio space to accommodate a 1920’s era Potter #2 print press, multiple letterpress type cabinets, ample layout surfaces, and drying racks/lines/display
- Activating the underutilized rear yard by creating a privacy buffer from the back alley and incorporating a yard-facing porch/terrace. “I’ve enjoyed the yard more in the past month than I have in the past 20 years.”
- Low maintenance exterior finishes and materials
